Sârbii încearcă să ia rolul de mediatori între cele două tabere. Ne-am fi bucurat ca Patriarhia Română să facă asta…:
Moscow, June 15, Interfax – The Serbian Patriarchate reserves the right to leave the forum on Crete, where the Pan-Orthodox Council was to open on June 18, which was called into question after some Churches refused to participate in it.
„If the Churches that will take part in the Council […] refuse to take into account all issues, problems and differences, the representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church will unfortunately have to leave this session, and thus, join the Churches that have refused to participate,” Serbian Patriarch Irinej said in a statement posted on the official site of the Serbian Orthodox Church on Wednesday.
The patriarch made it clear that by its participation in the Crete forum the Serbian Church is hoping to resolve issues that concern not only it, but also the Churches that have cancelled their participation in the Council.
Patriarch Irinej believes the meeting on Crete is the beginning of a negotiation process aimed at „resolving differences in the spirit of universal commitment to the collegiate Christian Church.”
Last week, the Serbian Patriarchate joined the local Churches that do not consider participation in the Pan-Orthodox Council in the designated period, on June 18-27, to be possible. The statement issued by the Serbian Church proposed to delay the Council „for some time” to resolve the differences between local Churches, reach a consensus and make improvements to draft documents.
The Bulgarian, Antioch, Georgian and Russian Churches have also asked for the Council to be postponed.
